He jerked awake with a gasp, half startling himself with the rattling of the chains holding him in the corridor. "What was that for?!" he asked indignantly, looking up at the man -- the Time Lord -- who stood before him, still pointing his laser screwdriver at him.

"Because I could, why else?" the Master asked him with a smirk.

Oh. So that was the way it was going to be. "All right. So what now?"

"Well, I thought we might have a little fun, you and I," the Master said, his tone light, but his expression anything but. Jack wondered exactly which of the five-hundred-twenty-six New Galactic Dictionary definitions of 'fun' the alien was actually using.

"I'm a-quiver with anticipation," Jack said with a winning smile.

"Yes, I'm sure you are..."

He writhed and screamed under the Master, body responding helplessly to impulses and sensations his nerves were too confused to process immediately, surges of pleasure or spikes of pain coming at unexpected intervals not even related to what the Time Lord was doing to him. He shuddered and shook, his body nothing more than a mass of sensation; of pleasure and pain and intensity, all of it more than he thought he could actually bear. He was almost relieved when the hands fastened around his throat, giving him a few moments where his nerves and mind could catch up with each other and he knew that the grey-out was what truly should be happening now.

"You never want it to stop, do you, Captain?" the Master's voice found its way through the roaring in his ears as he came back again, limbs jerking as nerves re-fired. "No one else has been able to bring you to this place, have they?"

He panted and looked up at the alien, somehow able to rein in that lingering fear all sentients felt when their deaths were upon them. "Actually, you'd be surprised at the kinds of things you can discover in nearly two-hundred years," Jack said with a defiant smile. "Give people -- or aliens -- enough money, and they're willing to do just about anything for -- or to -- you."

He was expecting the expression of rage, ready for it when the Master snapped his neck.
