None of them remember that year. Not even Ianto, who was more in the thick of it than Jack ever wants to think about and oh yeah, if he ever finds the Master again he's going to use up a few regenerations making up for that one.
No, Jack's the only one who remembers it; who wakes up screaming sometimes as the nightmares crowd in. And the pain and tortures he suffered were only a small part of it -- it was having to see what happened to the others, to his friends, to people he cared about, and know that he couldn't protect them or save them, no matter how much of himself he offered.
So when he's moody, or more insomniac than usual, and someone asks him what's wrong, he can't tell them. There are only a handful of people he can talk to at all about that, and none of them are here. None of them need to hear any reminders of their own year of hell.
All he can say is that everything's fine. Everything's fine, and they'll just chalk it up to Jack being Jack. Sometimes he wonders which is going to crack first -- his mind, or their patience. Although, when he's being more truthful with himself, he thinks that perhaps the former has already happened...
